  • Brussel Sprouts

    Hi,

    I am in the process of sorting out my newly acquired allotment, I start growing some veg at home in containers as I wasn't sure when I would eventually get an allotment.

    I am hoping to have a couple of beds set up within a few weeks, would it be too late to transplant the brussel sprouts I have already growing? Or is it best to leave them and get the allotment sorted ready for next season?

    I think the containers I have are probably a bit small, but I don't have much space and was just trying to see what happens with them

    Here is my attempt at home just wanted to give a go at couple of things but as this space will be used I decided on containers so I can move around when/if needed, excuse the bricks;

    Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Personally I'd move the sprouts but make sure you firm them in really well....maybe even stake them to start with until their roots are more established??

    If they get stressed- too hot/not enough water, the sprouts will blow. Moving them is possibly a bit of a risk but I reckon less so than leaving them in the small pots.

    Looking very healthy by the way- well done!

    Oh - and congrats on your new lottie!!!!

      i would also move, again firm in very well

      very jealous as mine have only just set their true leaves, and i bet they bolt.
      I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

          Your plants look great,I would get the brussels sprouts planted into the ground too,as deep as you can for stability,these plants get top heavy & can tilt. I had some spare plants & put one plant per 40litre potato bag,with only 20 or 30litres of compost,the stems were half the thickness of the plants in the ground & tiny sprouts. It's well worth putting them in the ground,they grow huge about 2ft wide,also have you got netting? Cabbage white butterflies will lay eggs on them every day,when they find them.
