I had to move the sweetcorn out of the lean-to cause it was starting to but up against the roof and as usual with this country I love (and hate) it started to blow like billy-o the moment I got it outside. Now all the canes are leaning over at a 45 deg angle. I've tried lassoing them all together for support and tieing them to the lean-to door but I'm worried they'll not be ok. Sorry bout the typo's but I'm in a hurry and panicking. What do I do?

LOL, I'm certainly no expert either VC as this is my first attempt. It just went nuts and started growing like the beejabbers. Next thing I know the cobs are starting and its up against the roof so out it went. As I explained earlier, the minute they hit the fresh air the wind starts. My corn now looks like a cats cradle (if you understand this then your as old as me).
The cane's have got to be at least 5' tall and growing; I saw a photo of a guys on here and he had a similar arrangement but with 7 plants in a pot so I thought it was worth a go. Never thought they would survive this far North but there you go!Last edited by Python15; 03-07-2015, 08:47 PM.The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men gang aft agley

I have never grown corn so I don't really know what I am talking about either. I know from my recent experience with my peas (which are now doubled over) how easily tall, sappy veg can collapse in the wind. Supporting things in pots is always a problem because if you use canes they can fall over and drag the plants with them.
Its hard to tell from your pics but I would be inclined to put another lot of string a bit nearer the tops of the plants just to give them a bit of extra stability.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

Looks like you've rescued them
To be honest, I'd be a bit concerned that the string might cut into the stems if it gets very windy again.
Could you use an old pair of tights or something eventually?"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

I was a bit worried about the string cutting in too but the wife objected sooo badly at having her tights hauled off I decided to use my own....ahem...only kidding. The wind has now died down as it often does suddenly up here and they look fine (whew!). I have taken your advice and supported higher up and WILL look to something softer, however, I like to thank ALL of you for helping me through my panic attack!! VERY much appreciated! The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men gang aft agley
