Starting to sound as if this is "normal" for this year for most people.
They can stay where they are, maybe they will surprised me one day but it seems the years is progressing and getting a bit late to grow, flower and fruit. They would only seem to have until about the end of September to accomplish it all.

I think as the Spring was cold and Summer kicked in late we haven't had a long enough window to grow veg that are heat lovers. Last year was a different story. Why don't you dig one up and put it on your kitchen windowsill to record the difference?

      Johnny, they look great!

Mine are much slower this year, although my Banana Peppers and Jalapeno are both fully laden. My Thai Chillies are growing into very odd shapes, only one fruit on one of my Big Boy Bell Pepper plants and Scotch Bonnet, Aji Colorado and Prairie Fire just beginning to produce flower buds. Nothing at all yet on my Ring of Fires.
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
        Pumpkin pi.

We put our chillies out about six weeks ago, in this time we've had four weeks of temps around 30 +/- one or two degrees with a couple of colder weeks around 15. Ours have been struggling too, stunted growth, some yellow leaves and a bit limp.

A couple of weeks ago we put a couple under those mini umbrella tents, they had been protecting the courgettes from slug attack, but with the weather going past 30, slugs in hiding and courgettes getting too big it freed up these tents.

The chillies perked up from the others without tents so we put them all in tents, they all look a bit greener, a bit higher. No little chillies yet. I guess the tents have been protecting the chillies from the cooler nighttime temps. Might be worth a go or a test case for anyone else struggling with outside chillies/peppers.

Mine bought in the UK as pack of 3 varieties plants in b&q growing in 3 inch pots about 6 inch high....always grown from seed before and only chilie plants, first time trying sweet peppers

Planted in 2 litre pots 3 varieties for the last 6 weeks, 2 weeks here in Bulgaria outside in the middle of the garden

They didnt grow much if at all in the UK, inside the house in the window, first week here 2 plants went from 7 inch high to 15 inch high.....the rest have gained about 1 inch, but all started to grow flower buds this week

I thought it was just me.....today they go out of the pots into the garden,

Outdoor temp sometimes dropped to 15C at night, most nghts about 20C and 35C to 45C most days and sometimes hotter for short time

Still not growing though!, not cooler in the UK and not hotter here

Everyones peppers growing round here are 3 foot+ tall , outdoors and like the heat so excess heat shouldnt be a problem with peppers!, every yer they have bags full of them and its always hot

Should ask them if they have any secrets to growing them? Saying that my jalapeno plant has grew to around 3 ft but I seeded and grew it last year and kept it warm the window over the winter. Maybe theirs are 2nd year chillies/peppers...

Hmm. Have just caught my early (ha!) jalapeno knitting itself a woolly sweater and the habaneros are surreptitiously looking at travel ads for the Caribbean. They told me that they were thinking of flowering but couldn't be bothered. It's a bit nippy and grey here today...

The chillies(Ohnivec a native chillie but I got the seeds from Real Seeds) have flowered. Massive turnaround from looking near death two months ago when first sat out to now. We've had a week of hot weather though, the temp has been around 32C in the shade for 8 days so far.

Still I think the mini tent method has been good and will put them out in these from the start next year.

my chillies and peppers are struggling too... I got excited a few weeks ago when I discovered lots of buds but to date no action, and very little growth since they were planted out in June. I thought I might struggle as I didnt sow the seeds until April, but seems the weather is not helping their plight!

I may try bringing a couple in overnight and see if that helps!

I have finally got some chillies on my bought chilli plants. The ones sown from seed in April are still only about 6 inches tall and have been kept in the greenhouse. They stayed at about 3 inches for months but have suddenly started to grow. No signs of any flowers yet though

As I posted http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ml#post1358631 mine and the aubergines have been rubbish even in the tunnel this year. The trouble is that if we plant out and they stall at all it takes that much better conditions to persuade them to get going again. That's why it can often be better starting afresh. As I also said, when I looked in local garden centres, theirs were no better.

The overnights in the tunnels are only just regularly above 10C. My plants are just starting to look like they are doing something. However, many are covered in flowers which, to me points to them being stressed and desperately trying to produce seed before dying - they are still very short! I have thinned the flowers out. I have fed the plants little and often all the way through and am giving either comfrey and seaweed if they have fruit or pee if they have just leaves - I'd rather have a bit of growth than fruit on the peppers.(My comfort is that all the peppers should overwinter for next year but obviously bells are a pain in that respect.) The aubergines I'm limiting to a maximum of three fruit each.

In the meantime, I'm inter-planting with things that shouldn't be too competitive, like salad leaves.

It is a rubbish year, if we think we've got it tough in the garden just check out some of the farming forums-it's desperate they are either flooded out - so nothing is growing or suffering terrible drought - so nothing's growing and that's just Britain - New Zealand is having a nightmare.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!
