99% of my spuds (kestrel) are showing no sign of flowers this year. The foliage looks as healthy as a very healthy person at a health club though. Any ideas?

I sometimes don't have any flowers on my potato plants, they seem to put out flowers if they feel like it in my experience. I think there have been a couple of discussions on here about it before. I'll see if I can find them.A garden is a lovesome thing, God wot! (Thomas Edward Brown)

Hi.
Neither my kestrel or pentland javelin have had flowers on but still had quite a good crop from them. None of my first lot of main crop have either. I know just re read it and it sounds odd but I bought a load of main crop and got them planted then was allocated some more ground at allotment. This ground being unused for several years I got some more spuds and got them planted. Now they have flowers on them.
Have googled the question and it seems not all flower. It shouldn't affect the crop.sigpic

Haven't been able to find anything conclusive I'm afraid, lots of people nip the flowers off to save energy going into the flower production so no flowers isn't a bad thing

Likewise, only one plant has flowered out of about 100 seed potatoes.........saves me nipping them off as they serve no purpose to me.......Last edited by Bigmallly; 11-07-2015, 11:00 PM.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Maybe flowering is being bred out of spuds as it just wastes the plants energy when tubers are what we are after? It would be seen as an undesirable trait by the geneticistsMy Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
