Poor spud harvest

This year has been fantastic for my spuds (all in 45lt buckets) I had loads of international kidney. I also had two buckets of Orla, the first one yielded 10 lb but when I turned out the second one half of them were completely rotten! its not blight so what could it be.

I just upped my Kestrel yesterday. All really good sized spuds just right for "chipping", but not as much quantity as usual. Quality was decent with just a touch of scab on a few of them. Taste was magnificent.

My rockets have done well. Although its my first attempt at growing potatoes so I'm probably happy that it looks like a potato at all!

Well I am done with spuds. They take up too much space, compost and give zero in return. I have watered and fed accordingly and still absolutely pathetic yield. Some pots with nothing inside. I got my hopes up thinking I had a large spud in one of them only for it to be the seed potato.

I'm with Marb. My Duke of York, Red Duke of York and Wilja were all pathetic. The foliage died down before any flowers back in early July. May be lack of water at the wrong time I suppose, but spuds don't warrant watering when the water costs in both time, effort and money. July drought was a real pain. I am giving them a miss next year.

I hear what you say, and totally agree. Mine were in the ground but near a privet hedge, so water could have been a factor. On the bright side... they didn't have blight

finally lifted my earlies and from 7 half dustbins not enough to fill a builders bucket properly and a lot are really small, a wasted effort..
