As well as putting woodash on the soil, if finely sieved the chooks love to make dust baths with it.

Is it still ok to use stove wood ash if I have used ordinary fire lighters to light the stoves?

I do. So I hope the answer is yes. The nasties will have burnt off, I'm sure.

I suspect a true believer would say no, but I just use quarter of a firelighter. 10mm cube... So I'd be inclined to say aye... The petrol chemicals burn off immediately....

That said, I'm still clearing up all the rubbish wood around the farm house, so all the stove ash is going into the bin. One to think about

Boiler pellets - known to be pure wood, is the ash I've got for the garden.

Used some wood ash today round the bases of the broad-bean plants I was moving out from trays in to the garden, in the hopes of providing a bit of a barrier against slugs.
