Which seeds are you thinking of buying?

I was thinking broccoli, cauliflower, garlic, onions, potatoes, some type of leafy salads and maybe carrots for inside the greenhouse? Would these be possible?

Garlic and onions will be fine for overwintering. Might be a bit late for broccoli. Don't ask me about cauliflower as I have never managed to grow one. Potatoes need to be frost free so you wiill need to be able to take them into the greenhouse once the cold nights arrive. Carrots may overwinter if you get one of the cold tolerant types - I am growing a Nantes type called Marion which I find very nice and is supposed to be cold tolerant.

For lettuce you need to choose ones that are recommended for winter as the ordinary ones will have problems with low light levels. Other salad leaves you might want to try are things like mizuna (hardy) and komatsuna, some varieties of which are winter hardy (I have Torasan). I've grown kohlrabi through the winter, although it was a fairly mild one. There is also plenty of time for spring cabbage and chard.

          Wot she said ^^^^^^^^

I'm trying to overwinter broccoli and caullis for the first time this year, I've only just sown them but if they get to a reasonable size they'll be going in the polytunnel as an experiment. I certainly wouldn't expect a crop from them before May, even so.

Never had any luck with sowing carrots, beetroot etc after July - i think the cold and dark just come too soon up here for them to bulk up in time. Spinach, chard, and raab sown NOW should be ok. Never tried late sown spuds, not convinced they'd come to anything, if my summer ones are anything to go by!

          Good luck!

Worth pointing out that they won't really grow over winter as its too dark and cold but the hardy stuff suggested will survive fine and can either be harvested during those months (assuming you get it big enough before winter hits) or sit until the spring and take off as it warms up.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
