  • yellow podded mange tout

    hi everyone,

wondered if anyone has grown these before? they are from real seeds and claim to be really tasty and prolific. prolific mine are (the ones which have survived the floods anyway, im in Sheffield) but the taste is a great disapointment, not even a hint of swetness. i was wondering if this could be down to the soil affecting i in some way? any ideas?

Haven't grown them Serenity, my purple-podded are growing well but with no flowers yet (how are yours doing?). This is my first year growing peas.

I wonder if the very wet weather has caused things to swell quickly but without the taste they would normally have - sort of diluted. This is probably not possible and I will wait to see what the experts say.
    Happy Gardening,

      Hi Serenity,
I've grown these. as you say, the taste isn't exactly mind-blowing, but they do look pretty, with the mauve flowers. I'll use up the rest of the seeds next year, but I'll alos buy some 'bog standard' mangetout seeds and compare both.

Having also grown red flowered broad beans, they too are very pretty but I spent yesterday afternoon shelling broad beans with only 2-3 beans per pod. Again, I'll use up the seed next year, but will grow more of the Sutton I also grew this year.
