it is September round here that garlic gets planted, giving good growth then the cold forms the cloves and it is ready mid june in normal years, but was 6 weeks behind this year due to the long spell of cold weather, especially the nights below 8-9degs persistantly until 2nd week of july, so everything is very late..

Thought mine were doing well. After drying the bulb split into separate cloves and look a bit bleugh! First year trying garlic, won't put me off will try again next year.sigpicComment

you can buy it from specialist growers which is expensive but they do perform well and are a good way to get started if you plan to replant from what you grow.
You can buy from garden centres or from places like wilk0s or even the £ shop...results are variable but good value.
You could plant the supermarket ones meant for eating...this carries a risk of diseased stock (although I never actually heard of anyone being caught out that way)
break the bulb into cloves and plant as you would onion sets.Comment
