Any red outdoor tomatoes yet?

I have had three red, some are yellow, some going dark.

The insides were lovely but both last year and this year the skins were really tough... Is this because I been growing them outside???

Tough skins are often a sign of too little water. Tomatoes are thirsty plants and need watering often. What varieties are you growing.

Tumbling Tom seem to me to have thick skins I much prefer the original Tumbler, to me they taste better too.

Anyway this is how they look today, it may be late but it looks like we shall get our years supply of tomato puree and home made soup after all.

So many plants so little memory space. I don't do well with names.
I have gardeners delight aswell.... That's either a cuke or a Tom. No idea what plant it what.

My tumbling toms have been utterly rubbish, owing in large part to my darling oh deciding to water my plants for me.to help.out..... On one of the hotest days of the year... at MIDDAY!!!!
What are the original tumblers? I find seed shopping so daunting with so so many different Tomato's to choose from

They are just called Tumbler.

The were the original variety but went of the market some years back that's when Tumbling Tom and some others sprang up. Three years later they were bought back by popular request and I am glad to say I was one of the people who wrote to the seed companies complaining about their alternatives.

Don't blame your other half to much those plants you see above have been watered in the midday sun, it's not advisable but when you forgot the night before and go out to find them drooping and limp then they get water.

Tomato ripening.

Today I managed to drag 3 of my container grown outdoor Tomato plants into my greenhouses to aide ripening.

Several of my indoor plants have finished now.. helped by whitefly.....

I just need 1 decent fruit off my brandywine tomato plant in order to save seed, as I bought the plant as a baby from the Spring Malvern show, so it got a bit of a late start.

Most of the fruits are the size of a cat.

Its been such a cloudy year in my opinion... I took the shade netting off my greenhouses mid-July and closed up most nights to keep a bit of heat in.

At least Mr Blight didn't visit me this year.

Forgot to take a pic but finally two of my gardeners delights have turned a deep greeny orange - so close!

I have had quite a few ripe outdoors I planted tomatoes amongst my asparagus to stop the beetles and didnot expect a crop but yes lots of ripe tomatoes and no blight either is it a fluke? I have never managed to get much outdoors before mainly because of blight so a win this year and I will do this planting next year.

I've cut all of my outdoor tomatoes down and left them on the stem and hung them in the greenhouse to ripen them. I did leave one plant standing though as the tomatoes had actually started to turn to an orange colour. It's nearly bloody October lol.

Pick another 2lb of Tumbler today and still a lot of fruit on the plant, just keeping my fingers crossed.
