  • Very damp over night here the last few days with at least 12hrs of over 90% humidity. I'm keeping a close eye on my plants for blight even if it is too cold for a true Smith period.

    • I have one plant in the GH with remaining fruits on, pale orangey, so reckon they'll be all done in a day or two with the sun we've been having!
They've been really sweet and tasty. Shall miss popping one into my mouth every time I go into the kitchen!

      • Any red

        Just taken this pic now.
        These are my outdoor tomatoes.
The variety is Nyagous and is my first time growing it.
I do believe its a late variety and it is a black one.
        Cant wait to taste ie.

          • Bramble, have you tried 'em yet? If so how did they taste? They look amazing!
            Will you grow them again?

            • Slight tinges of red on my outdoor Shirleys today. I cut off one of the trusses as it was so heavy it had split away from the main stem.

9 decent sized fruit and plenty more to come - the best outdoor Shirleys I've ever grown. I put it down to a mulch of hotbin compost after planting out. They are starting to turn red, honest!

                • Well I've given up and chopped them down! Going to be a heck of a lot of fried green toms here and green tom chutney!

SusieG, no not tried them yet. Tomorrow, and will let you know what I think.
If they live up to expectation I will share the seeds. ☺

                    • I ended up making green tomato chutney from half my remaining toms. The larger varieties just weren't ripening off, so chutney it was. I did leave half in a bag with a banana to see if any ripen. I think two have so far. If not, it'll be more chutney. I'll have to give it as Christmas presents or something, because we'll never eat that much of the stuff. My cherry toms (can't remember if it's Gardener's Delight, or Suncherry Premium) are just finishing ripening outdoors now. I'll have them off by the end of the week.

SusieG, yes I did taste them and I hve to say I was a little disappointed with the flavour. They tasted quite watery so I din't think they will be getting a space in my garden next year.

                        • Any red outdoor tomatoes.

Decided to pick these tomatoes this afternoon in an effort to ripen them indoors as the weather has taken a downturn.

                          • I brought in the last of my tomatoes yesterday. Given the late ripening, I am amazed how few green ones I have left. Plenty cooked and puréed in freezer and we've eaten loads fresh. Not a bad harvest after all.

I mentioned this on another thread.

Despite the panic during August, the last month has done the business - and with the lack of blight, has probably been one of my most successful years for toms.

Although the weather is a bit blustery this week, I'm hoping to get another good lot of outdoor toms from the plot at the weekend.

                              • Although not as good harvest as last year, mine all ripened in the end, in fact too much rain, made them squishy and a lot split, but were fine cooked or made into sauce. 4 green ones only.
