slug trails help

Hi to everyone
i have a problem to wich i hope the fantastic knowledge base on hear can answer
a question , And that is i have grown some really lovely red spring onions in a container and all was going well until i took them to my daughters house so she could look after them.They are ready to harvest but they are covered in slug or snail slime and the big question is if i wash the slime off of them can i still eat them as i have patiently
waited for them to grow, but i am not sure if slug slime is toxic or not . This may sound a stupid question but i am still learning and enjoying growing veggies.

I'd be far MORE inclined to eat vegetables that have been crawled over i.e. it shows that they aren't so blitzed with toxic chemicals no living thing can come into contact with them!

Watering in the morning, instead of the evening, can greatly reduce slug damage. The logic is simple, slugs are moisture-loving creatures and nocturnal.

I've never read of slug slime being toxic nor heard of anyone being hurt by it. Wash them and then f]dry them well. Wet onions will rot quicker than dry ones.

If you give them a quick slosh about in vinegar and rinse them thoroughly , you'll get all the mucus off

That's the Slugs and Snails in Vinegar---very tasty. They just don't slip down as easy without the mucas.
