  • Saffron question

For those of you growing it - what do you do/should I do with the little cormlets?

I had to move the 60 corms I planted last year. They have their own bed now, and 108 of the biggest ones are tucked up in it. I am left with a litre carton of immature cormlets about 1.5cm in diameter. What can I do with them?

I could stick some in a large tub, but I have no idea as to spacing. I'm guessing they could be closer planted than the mature ones & in small groups just to mimic nature?

I am no expert but I dug mine up this year too and replanted. I planted my big corms deep however. Were yours planted shallow before and did they do okay?

I planted all my babies in a massive barrel at about 3 inch spacings.

10-15cm spacing each way and depth. I've stuck 44 of the leftover ones in 2 large pots and I'll give the rest away I think.

Am not shifting them then for another 3 years!
