To be honest, like most others have said, the Max/Min therm as been showing high's of 35 in the day and as low as 6.5 at night, no wonder the poor "Beggers" are confused!
What's the green plastic pots called your toms are planted into? I need some of those.

(I also have a glut now but please don't hold it against me).

Anyone else got any ? (except Monty Don who gets everything perfect)
      C'mon Marb67 - give us an update.

Despite my mild panic back then - September's weather has been great and tomatoes have been in fantastic supply.
I'm about to sit down to a cheese and tomato sandwich right now - and when my better half returns from Ireland at about 4.30 pm, it's straight up to plot to pick a whole load more.

Ive taken some of my green ones home and will try and ripen with a banana. I've left some on the plants and cut back the foliage to see if that will help.

I tried the banana and paper bag trick last year and after two weeks all it had done was ripen the banana!

I'm sure I read somewhere that the toms that you pick off will only ripen if they have already started changing colour - whether that means changing to that very pale, light green or orange first I don't know. A friend of mine said she ripens hers in the airing cupboard which is nice and warm.

Good news is that the weather is supposed to be pretty good for the next few weeks (fingers crossed) so hopefully the late ripening toms will have plenty of time yet.

I put all of my green trusses in a huge glass vase thingy but made sure that I included a couple of slightly orange ones. They have gone red brilliantly. I also hung some of the trusses up on string, again by a couple of orange ones and they have all slowly turned red.

All have been kept in the porch, which is south facing and gets very warm.

They will go red unless they are that bluish green colour that they start off at when they are very young. I pick most of mine when they start to turn, but sometimes if I think I might be getting blight I pick eveything and ripen it indoors.

Regarding the weather, it depends where you look as to how long this fine, dry spell will last. My money would be on it breaking down some time around the weekend, possibly sooner, but I could be wrong. After that, some of the model runs are starting to look a little too wintery for my taste, with a cold northerly wind setting in. I'm hoping those runs are wrong and the ones that show warm (although cold at night) and dry continuing for the next 2 weeks are right, but I wouldn't bank on it.

i had LOADS last year and ended up with a massive pile of green tomatoes, and they did slowly all turn red.
tomatoes was one of the very few thing i grew successfully and it was my first time growing anything so i was a bit shocked when they started turning, i thought i was going to have to make green tom chutney or somehting
