Late sowing of DFBs

I'm going to sow some Dwarf French beans this week. Hoping to pick them in October
Is anyone else doing this, or am I the only one crazy enough to try?

Got some climbing French beans just beginning to climb in the tunnel and some dwarf Borlotti as well.

I've had such awful germination of DFB all season!
The other week I sowed another 24.... a grand total of 2 have come up!

So yeah, I'll join you...if only to get rid of this naff packet of seeds so I have to get new next year (got any lovely tarty beans in the VSP?)

I've got some putple teepee in my friend's greenhouse that are at the 2 leaf stage. Going to keep them in there in a pot and see what happens. Had some succes with this variety on the windowsill in spring, so hopeful.

Muddled. there are lots of DFBs in the VSP - not sure how tarty they are though. Give some a whirl!

Last night I put 64 beans in water - just to make 'em think something was happening.
They're all a bit past their sell-by date so fingers crossed they remember what happens next.
The varieties are Maxi, Safari, Aquilon, Kinghorn Wax, Pencil pod Black Wax, Borlotto di Vigevano, Cannellino and Pongo and I've soaked 8 of each.

Pongo (Marshalls) was the only packet that suggested sowing in "July - mid August"; the others stopped at July.

In my "Keep it simple" way, all the beans were soaked together and will be planted in the same seed tray. I hope that I can identify them at cropping stage (ever the optimist).

I would normally but we've had a bumper season and the first sowing from April have only just finished cropping with another two sowings also producing and one more lot planted at the weekend.
I've grown Rocdor (yellow) and Aiguillon which have grown like fury.

Think I'll join you - nothing to lose and it'll help recycle some compost (with some fertiliser) from emptying the potato bags!

Am i right in saying that i could use old pepper ( this years failiures ) compost to grow beans ?

You can use old compost. I'm sticking mine outside - may put a few in pots in the GH as well.

I've sown 16 DFB variety Castandel in pots in the GH.

Do you reckon they'd grow in part sun?

Potatoes cropped next to the leylandii where it's open but light levels aren't great. Is it worth a punt at dwarf beans?
