  • Crop Rotation List Please

I wondered if anybody had a list of plants in the various categories for crop rotation.
I am dividing my main growing bed into 6 x 1 metre squares so they will be better for crop rotation purpose. Dividing the beds with a slab path through the middle and roofing slate between beds.
    Many thanks
    Andy

Good idea to have 6 beds. Do you look at companian planting too? In companian planting tomatoes are supposed to be kept away from potatoes because of blight & parsnips away from carrots, because if the carrot fly finds the carrots, they also find the parsnips. With crop rotation they're saying potato family in one bed together, that would put potatoes next to tomatoes. I suppose enviro mesh over the roots would deter the carrot fly but I'd keep potatoes away from tomatoes just in case.

I don't get too hung up over crop rotation because different parts of my garden are very different. I try to plant different things each year in each space but sometimes it is impossible. I could not follow my brassicas with onions, because onions need some sun and my brassicas grow in the shade. Similarly it would be hopeless trying to grow peas and beans against the north facing wall where my potatoes go.

What I do try to do is make sure that if I have a problem with a crop I don't grow the same crop there again next time. This year I have peas near my hotbin and they are suffering from powdery mildew, so I will grow tomatoes there next year. As you can see, this is the opposite to the conventional order of rotation, but I can't put brassicas next to the hotbin because its a place which has some valuable sun and is next to impossible to net.

I do grow a lot of my plants in pots and buckets, which means that as I change the compost each year, I can use the same garden space, which makes things like netting carrots much easier.

I have this bed netted, so should deter a few pests.
I have another bed which I hope to grow flowers together with veg in bunches or drifts, maybe carrots, herbs and peas on tee pee tied canes.
Tomatoes, cucumbers and maybe dwarf French beans will be in pots.

I did something similar, peas with a bamboo teepee, then I sowed carrot seed all around so I had carrots growing under my peas, they're good companions,my peas are finished now, carrot tops look good, haven't lifted them yet.
