I think everyone has times like this, it was similar for me last year. I just thought well in 2015 I'm not going to grow anything, I was fed up. Then as you say it cost so much to buy in the shops and I just refuse to pay it when I know I can grow it cheaper. I've had loads of bother with my brassicas this year so Im going to work on a plan for them for next year. Maybe target one crop and work on that see what you can do to control your problems if its pest or disease

I'm printing this photo off and placing it next to my "caulis". See if giving them a complex has any effect.

Number 1 son just declared my carrots the best he's ever eaten though, not a bad result from a 12 year old boy

If only for the health benefits its worth it, keeping yourself in relative working order if the alternative would be most Saturdays in the pub watching football, as it was for me before pursuing healthier activities like gardening.

We've had the best year ever since switching to heirloom from the usual supermarket hybrid F1 types which has been inspiring, maybe the heirlooms are more rugged and we will see what our saved seeds are like next year. Despite the results its been time consuming, we lost time renovating the living room and bedroom to be and wont be in before winter as the Mrs wanted to be in part because of the time sunk into the garden.
