I'm a lot further south than most of you, and have had a fantastic year for tomatoes under cover. Anything outside is still staying green though.

Except Sandpoint, which is an ultra early bush tomato. Seeds will be appearing in the VSP shortly if you want to give them a go.

I agree with all the above but if you google short season, cold tolerant tomatoes you will get a list of tomatoes that will grow well for you in your particular area.
      Good luck for next season.

That's weird!! Aren't you in South London? I only grow outdoor toms and have been picking them for weeks. Had at least a third of the fruit by now. I'm in South London too by the way.

Local micro-climate can make a lot of difference temperature-wise.

I can tell the difference from my garden to my allotment, literally just round the corner.

I have found little difference between indoor and outdoor tomatoes this year. The Sungold in the greenhouse sown on the same day as those outside produced ripe fruit 1 day earlier. Belle, a beefsteak variety, has its first fruit turning red in the greenhouse today, the plant at home (in an open growhouse) is starting to turn. Roma in the greenhouse is starting to turn, as is Roma outside in my garden. Garden Pearl also showed very little difference indoors and out. The Shirley I planted outside were from sideshoots, so not comparable with their parents planted in the greenhouse, which are fruiting now.

I've had ripe fruit from outdoor plants of Garden Pearl, Totem, Sweet Aperitif and Sungold so far, as well as fruit that has ripened from flowers outside from Balconi red nad Balconi yellow.

I think eastern areas have had a much better summer than the west, although still not great!

Then yes, that IS weird! I've picked a very few Smurfs, Purple Ukraine and Rosella, but the Sandpoint, Blush and Ildi are not doing much. Whereas I am harvesting from the 3rd/4th truss now of most of the greenhouse plants.
