Shallots, big ones or small ones?

The big ones you save and replant will give you many small ones next year. The small ones you replant will give you few but bigger ones. So I'd say keep as many small ones as you will want to harvest big ones in 2016, and save a few big ones as well so that you'll have enough small ones in 2016 to replant in 2017.
Keeping the best for cultivation is a good idea when it comes to vegetative propagation. When you think about seed saving / breeding, you always select for the best and eat the unsuitable ones.Last edited by nellie-m; 19-09-2015, 06:39 AM....bonkers about beans... and now a proud Nutter!

Plant both sizes as a trial then you can come on next year and debunk/not debunk the theory that small shallots make large shallots and vice versa! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
