  • Errrrmmmm....help!

I have 4 rooted Crimson Crush armpits for overwintering. However 2-3 of them are showing dark areas on their stems - my neighbour's plot is festering with blight spores.

My main plant on the plot is nearly unaffected, and I'm sure the armpits will be fine.

What's niggling me is - am I happily keeping blight spores alive over winter on the Crimson Crush, ready to spread onto my other (not blight-resistant) tomato seedlings and chitting potatoes next year?

I live in a small flat - I don't have anywhere else to grow things.

    Have you got a picture?

Sometimes stems naturally have darker bits, specially near the leaf branch joints.

Have you had any blight on the leaves? it seems to hit the leaves first

If In doubt you could always ditch the affected ones and then get sideshoots from the other sideshoots to build up your amount next season, you really only need to keep one plant over winter so id choose the best one.

        Et voila!

All of the sideshoots have this on. They didn't have them a couple of weeks ago. The patches are getting darker and spreading, but there is nothing on the leaves. I guess there is something of a 'wait and see' approach given that my spuds won't arrive till January at the earliest.

I don't know nearly enough about blight, (so if it isn't, that will be great) but this is what my plot tomatoes have all looked like before blight took hold.

My plants don't have any more sideshoots, and even if they did, my neighbour shows no sign of clearing their 20 or so fully blighted plants so the spores are very much floating around at the moment.

If its any consolation, my Crimson Crush plants have darker patches on the stems - just like yours. They're in the GH and no obvious blight around.
I'm not going to try keeping them overwinter - found the skins a bit thick - nice flavour though

I have that on a couple of mine. I think it will only get worse. I don't think they will survive being over wintered.

You will find yourself a partner,
