  • In the seed trap again

As the allotment society seed orders will be closed by the weekend, tried to pick what really tempt me. comes around 35 packs of seeds cost around £30. none are toms, aubs ,chillis and cucs .

felt I can use them for more than one season, though it fails me my own spending challenge of £20 on seed. failing only because I have to order this 'now' than to buy the seeds only when I really want to sow them.

on a second thought If l go pick only organic types ..might helps to filter and minimise either spending or number of packets. but lazy me dumb in listening to this.

are successful in using up the fair portion of the seeds from the pack over the years?

Most seeds except maybe parsnips, carrots and corn - last for at least a couple of years.

I have successfully grown lettuce and cabbage seeds that were 5 years old - just keep them cool and dry - don't just throw them in the back of the shed and expect good results next year

    Good luck

Was the challenge for next years seed? Also if you use most of it over three years than it is only a tenners worth a year There are always ways to justify seed buying

So kind of you NFG, these seeds should suffice for 5 years as I have some 70 other seed packets I picked over the last year.

Some seeds will not be viable after a couple of years so don't rely on being able to grow them for 5 years. FAQ: How long do vegetable seeds last? How to store them and how long they keep.

VC, I can't imagine me not buying new seeds every year..

This year I have stopped buying toms, chilli (thanks to vine and VSP clearence)and aubs (my obession made to buy lot many aubs packets.

next year would be for beans as I would swap as many for beans.

third year swaps for courgettes (as I would be finishing half of my stash by then)

fourth year should be sweetcorn and squash...

                        that's it..these are my essentials

I'm definitely not obsessed with buying seeds.

No that wasn't me buying seeds in a french garden centre while I was supposed to be fishing.
