What is the correct storage of winter squash?

Just a quicky - I think. Once winter squash are cured and are destined for somewhere cool, dry and out of sunlight. Is there a preference for the surface they are sat on? i.e like apples are stored in slatted trays and not touching.

I hope that makes sense.

Mine sit on the kitchen floor, at the cool end, not touching. My friend wipes them with a mild bleach solution, but I prefer not to. Kept a couple of mine till April this year.

I just put mine in my spare bedroom on the tiled floors and all were touching. I still have one butternut from last year (i cannot believe it). I am leaving it as long as i can, and it still looks as good as store bought!

We just stick ours in a plastic box piled up in a cool room and they were fine until March/April (when we'd eaten most of them anyway!). We did give them a check over regularly though just to make sure!

Thank you. In the past I have left them on the floor out of the way. Glad I am not the only one

Mine go in cardboard fruit boxes stacked up in the spare room wardrobe and normally last until April. They get checked once a week or so.

Ive never stored squashes before but whenever I order alot att the restaurant they are delivered in a box packed with straw. So thats what im going to do with mine this year.
