Charlotte potato help!

Hi all!
I have 3 potato bags with Charlotte potatoes growing.
The haulms(tekki speak!?) have grown really tall and a lot of them are snapping off under their own weight.
Is this normal?
And will it affect the growth of the tubers (hopefully for xmad dinner!)
Grew tatties like this in bags once before about 5 years ago, but can't remember having this 'problem'.
Oh yes, also the farmer has removed all the haulms from his crop in the field opposite me ...
Sorry to be long winded about this, just a bit unsure what to do!

Can you support the stems in anyway? Ideally you want to keep as much as possible to feed the developing tubers. I suspect they have grown so tall due to the good growing weather we've had the last few weeks. When did you plant them?
Are they undercover? If not I suspect in the next few weeks we'll get a frost and they will need to be before then. I wouldn't worry what the farmer is doing, I doubt he's growing them for Christmas!

They're outside at the moment Wendy. I planted them middle of August ...
I'll leave them outside, as you say, until we get frost. Thanks!
