  • Mother Earth compost.

Was wondering if any one else use Mother Earth Compost. Have a lot of bother with very small black flies which appear to be coming from the compost [peat] Have potted up some plants for the house and we have these flies there to.
    Thanks.

I don't use that compost but I think the flies could lay eggs in any compost,I had a fungus gnat problem on a few of my indoor plants & put a little container of vinegar next to the plant pot & they were attracted to that & daily squashing. Got rid of the problem there. But I also had some on my rocket plant in the front window,I've just put it outside. It could be fungus gnats they like a very damp environment, letting the compost dry out a bit would help if it is gnats?

They can also be persuaded to drown themselves in almond oil.

Get a few Venus Fly traps, they work wonders on windowsills. =]

You can get sticky fly traps that look like plant labels if you want it to look discreet. Made by rent-o-kil
