Something you may consider BM is to give the heap a good tousling up in frosty weather. If the leaves are wet, the more they are given the opportunity to freeze, the quicker they will break down

Hadn't thought about that- good call!

I've just been scraping leaves out the only bit of guttering I can reach. They're already stinky in there.

                      1) Do I compact it or leave it "Open".

                      2) Cover or leave uncovered.

                      As always, thanx in advance.
I like that BM - I've got some bits of excess wire caging that will do a similar job to that.

Also, cheers VC - I'm going to empty last years lot (which are still in bin bags) into the cage, and just keeps this year's collection bagged until next year. And repeat.

I think I might go out with the kids and get them to pick all the leaves up, at least then it looks like we are all nuts together!
I was thinking about this. Aside, from the leaves drying out quickly, will the hessian not just rot as well?

I guess that's OK if you're keeping them where you want to apply them, but a bit messy if you want to move them.

I went out and got a bin liner full of leaves the other night. I can't bring myself to walk around my estate collecting leaves in broad day light. The neighbour's will think I'm a complete fruit bat. I plan on getting a load more over the coming nights.
