Good man, this is the start of a life long passion. There will be highs and lows. Even the old hands have occasional failures, but they tend to get it right more often than some of us. Salad is a good starter and generally fast growing. Garlic is something you can begin now too and a few broad beans if you fancy them.
Don't forget to look at making your own compost even if it's just kitchen scraps, a simple wormery if you like....There ya go so much to learn.

    Welcome.

Hello and welcome from me too. I'm pretty much a complete numpty most of the time but any problems I have normally get solved here, on the vine. A very generous bunch of peoples.
My tip would be.....get a diary, I write down what I've sown/planted, what's done well and what's not. I started off growing anything and everything, pretty stupid really because I really hate celariac but grew it anyway, courgettes too (yuck) but OH loves them and I found ways of turning some into preserves but I needed to get real - 14 courgette plants was madness. Looking back over the diaries helps me plan for the year ahead, I even write down the weather temps/rainfall etc.
Reading this back only indicates that I may need counselling......I'm addicted
