  • Shady carrots

Hi guys just a quick question. Will carrots grow in a shady area. The crop rotation is going to put them in a bed that gets some shade during the day ( I know this is a bit premature as I won't be planting them for ages)
It's just I try and plant carrots and onions together and have just planted the onions in the sunny side of the bed.

I grow carrots in pots in a shady area with walls to the south and west and they grow perfectly well. They do get sun in the morning and upto around mid day in the summer. Unless the area is completely dark I'm sure they will be fine, although you may get somewhat smaller carrots than you would in a sunny position.

Thanks penellype. That part of the bed does get some sunlight from the middle of the afternoon till sunset so will plant as planned.

I've had a good crop of carrots which are mainly in the shade; only getting direct sunlight for 2-3 hours a day.
