  • Pepino/ Melon Pear - Has anyone grown these.

I have just been looking through the Thomson and Morgan 2016 catalogue and came across these.
    Pepino, (Melon Pear).
Round to egg shaped fruits similar to melon to be grown in the greenhouse.
    Anybody know anything about these.

They will grow and fruit in this country so are worth a bash. I got one to fruit several years ago but don't recall eating it. I grew it again this year but it didn't fruit so am trying to overwinter it. Hope this helps

I have a plant, sown this year, but hasn't flowered yet. Its about 8" tall and losing its leaves. Its not my first attempt but they didn't make it through winter last time.

      Some threads about them :-

      Caveat!!
There are others and I haven't read any of these - so they may be no help whatsoever.

Have grown them the last few years. Next to my toms they are my favourite plants. Took cuttings last August and they have made good plants already. Overwintered a few last winter. Just stuck them out the way in the cellar along with the germaniums fuchsias etc. and most survived. The fruits are as big as grapefruit although this year for some reason were not as big as previous years. Very juicy and tasty and can keep for a longish time.

Cheers, although I did get a feeling of uncertainty when I thought I'd traveled back in time and posted.
