ordering your potatoes online

maybe a basic question but i normally go into a shop to buy my spuds and i get them late feb early march and chit them straight away i normally buy what ever veriety they have at the time

but now i want to try some specific verieties sarpo mira and international kidney so im looking to order online to make sure i get them as my local garden center doesnt stock these

now to my question as i normally get mine from the shop at a time of the year to suit me

the ones i am looking at online are from marshalls and it says they deliver them from jan up to late april what do i do with them if they turn up in jan its a long time to planting them will it affect them i dont want to leave ordering them to late incase i miss out

and if they turn up in jan its along time chitting till mid april

I have had my spuds from Marshalls for a number of years, they are very reliable, usually delivering late Jan early Feb and I have never been disappointed with the quality.

I always put them out to chit straight away and have never had problems. However if you want to hold them back for a while somewhere cool and dark, the salad draw of the fridge is ideal.

I've left some of mine chitting for 5 months,I buy them all in Jan/Feb & plant them March till July. They go wrinkly & shrivelled but are fine if left in a light airy space.

Yes, I order mine and chit them as soon as they arrive. Cool and light - shelf in brick outhouse is good place for mine

I've just ordered mine from Garden Organic, really pleased they're selling Ambo this year which is a fabulous potato (sold as a second early, but they can grow huge)

Seed Potatoes

If my order arrives in December then it'll be put in the fridge salad drawer for a month. If they arrive in January I'll just put them straight to chit on cold window sills ... I usually plant out in mid April and they're fine.

Chitting in a cool frost free place in full light them is the way to hold them back. All they will do is grow very small chunky shoots which will be raring to go at planting time.

I got mine from JBA (JBA Seed Potatoes) and you can specify the delivery week. Which is nice.
