  • Broad Beans Sown Deep

I haven't seen this on here but down our allotments we sow broad bean 6 inches deep, (yes 6 inches!) at the end of November or early December. That way the mice don't get to them as they don't dig that deep and they're ready before the blackfly get to them. I still have about 2 kilos left in the freezer, mind you, I did sow a lot. Try it you won't be disappointed.

Sounds like a good idea! Its a shame mine are already planted in my greenhouse bed where the tomatoes came out or else i may have given it a try! To mark the rows I put a line of magnesium limestone which doesn't seem to have been disturbed, even though the beans haven't shown there heads above ground.
I'm trying the Sutton dwarf beans this year because every thing grown in a greenhouse seems to reach for the sky!
