Let's not start discussing whether moon planting is lunacy or not. We've been down that road so many times
Can we just stick to our experiences of trying it and useful information for NG to explore, please.

I'm off to a well known seller of books (a river in south America) to get myself a book and calendar so I can have a go at this.

It sounds intriging and lets face it if it helps me, the repetitive growing failure.....

OK 2nd hand book and 2016 calendar ordered......I suppose I am a great believer in the motto 'anything that works for you' whether it is scientifically based or not will help you achieve your growing aims.

If you have looked at the old threads, you will see plenty of comments from me and reasons why I think there is some reasoning behind the synodic system based on my all be it limited experience with livestock. I really wouldn't go to the expense of the book and calendar The Gardeners' Calendar already flagged by VC is all you need and makes it really simple and straight forward.

Also, if you fancy doing a trial you can plan to compare methods. There are some results for garlic grown under different systems on the threads somewhere.

I really liked the structure it gave to my planting but just found it really stressful when I couldn't get stuff done "at the right time" especially as rest weeks always seemed to coincide with half terms! So I let it slip completely. When I retire, I think I'd go back to it by which time the odd bit of slippage probably won't stress me either!

Thank you for the link Marchogaeth. I like the fact that the site actually names the fruit and veggies to be done rather than leaving it a bit woolly for the beginner.

Your book will almost certainly only focus on the biodynamic approach as will the calendar but enjoy them anyway. They are bound to add to your knowledge.

I am trying biodynamic gardening. I do find it hard though as I still work 4 days a week and can't always plant according to the calendar. I have friends in France who have run their vineyard by this method for the past 8 or9 years. The quality and sales of their wine has improved greatly according to them. They even had their wine served to the french president this year. I have looked into it a lot and it does make sense to me. The intent is just as useful as the act. So now I try to plant as close to the day as possible. And if I miss I compromise. I might substitute a leaf day for a flower day for instance.

I am interested but the having to do things in time scales doesn't happen in my plot. The weather can be really variable up here and gardening for a living means that i need to give my customers priority and that invariably means the plot takes second place (or even third depending on what her ladyship has in mind and thus sometimes things get plantedwhen I can find a spare minute or two and not always when I had planned.

Like everything else concerned with growing vegetables, folks can and will do what works for them. There is no right way and no wrong way. I never rubbish what anyone else does (unless they have asked us here for advice and then rubbish the advice given) and I certainly wouldn't argue with anyone about their methods. For the same reason, I don't argue about religion and politics
