Well I took advice and firmed them in etc and they just end up like this. Thin and whispy. Monty Don of course pulled perfect ones that were actually popping up through the soil dry looking soil he had.

I think I will give up with radish.

Perhaps you're over watering everything Marb? If your garden's quite shady it won't need much watering.

Not overwatering because the weather has been hot and the beds dry out quick. Radish need to be kept moist otherwise they bolt.

Have you tried in containers rather than the ground ? I'm growing mine in plastic mushroom boxes from supermarkets and doing fine.

I have tried in the past and failed. Cat litter trays, large plastic pots. In the sun, in the shade. I just don't get them like they should be. What do you find is the best growing medium for containers ?

I think it just isn't working despite the correct watering. As you can see more bolts than Brunel. I will try in pots and if that goes the same will just give up. Of course I will use the bolted plants for seed to eat.

And yet again a failed crop. No bolting this time but weeks on the stems still havent swelled despite making sure they have enough water.

Loads of mine have failed to germinate due to birds scrubbing around in the soil.....

I have given up a long time ago. No matter what variety, what type of soil and all the care and attention I could never get a decent harvest, so I know how you feel.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Hi all i USED to have the same problem
but realised they were brassicas and brassicas are best in hard ground (trampled on )
if you draw a trench walk on it soak it sow your seeds and put dry soil on top the roots can only go down
in plant pots press the soil down hard with your hand water dry compost on top.

if it rains after it dont matter they still grow well.
hope you have the same results as me

Nope, same again. Crap results after taking above advice. Obviously it is written that I am not allowed to grow radishes.
