I'm giving up on a lot this year unfortunately. Brassica's, aubergines, sweet corn etc. I don't have the time/space/weather for a lot of things so instead of wasting what I have got, I'm going to concentrate on growing the things that I enjoy the most and have the most success with.
Remember it's just a bad day, not a bad life 😁

I'm giving broad beans a miss this year too, love the taste but never seem to catch them small enough and I hate all that shelling for what seems like one portion!
Not growing dwarf beans either, we all love them but I've tried growing them all over the garden, including pots and the raised bed, with little or no success.

Grow climbing ones instead, same great taste but much more productive and less back breaking to pick

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

          Did you trim your Celeriac?

They were kept well watered and had great leaf growth but the roots were a tangeled mess with no proper root ball.
They took up valuable space so, I wont grow them again.
I had the same experience until I learned that you need to keep taking off all side shoots and leaves except the central bunch of leaves on top, and earth up the resulting exposed bulb. Did that next time and got lovely big round bulbs, some even very large. It doesn't take long as the surplus leaves pull off easily, and well worth the effort. Better luck next time, to anyone giving it another try!

What are you guys avoiding in 2016?

            All the best
My neighbout on the next plot had lovely red sprouts last year, he gave me one to eat raw and it was firm and crunchy with a lovely flavour - he said his grandchildren like them better than green ones. Promised to check what variety it was and tell me, but he hasn't. They were quite close spaced too but looked very productive, I should think it was a newish hybrid rather than one of the first reds and possibly bought as plants rather than home raised. I would definitely try them if i knew which it was.

Sweet corn! I sowed 'Sure Start' in succession four at a time and got superb plants and a fantastic crop coming, we got the first four cobs which were delicious, then rats found it and started eating the nearly ripe cobs, then the half grown ones and eventually even the tiny embryo ones - they destroyed the entire rest of the crop! Impossible to fence them out as they burrow and bite through wire, only if I can find some really thick strong mesh and make a buried cage to completely enclose it above and below ground would I have another go.

I always manage to grow them successfully so I'd imagine I'll be giving them another go this year.

Not bothering with red cabbage, those that survived the slugs, got white fly. Then were attacked by cabbage white butterflies even when grown under enviromesh. The one that made it to the pot turned dirty grey whilst cooking.

Onions. They're cheap enough and if I grew enough for what I need in the garden I wouldn't have room for anything else. Maybe once I get an allotment. I wasn't going to grow potatoes but 'accidentally' bought some in £land the other week, despite knowing better so looks like I'll be squeezing them in somewhere. As it's only my second year of growing, nothing has bothered me enough to stop it so far - the failures were mostly down to (very) old seed and just made me more determined to try again this year.

                                Aubergines, peppers, oca and salsify.

First two I never do well with because of the weather.
The latter two we grew last year successfully but not keen,
