  • Planted 8 rows of garlic, saving the rest to plant the other side of xmas. Replaced the water butt thing. When I got my plot the water butt was a two foot square metal box, it had a plastic ballcock ball in it and a padlock on so im unsure as to what it used to be. It is falling apart with copious amounts of rust too so I replace it with a huge blue drum (that I dont have a lid for right now). Pulled out the last of the beetroot too.
I ran out of time to put in my onions so will do that this week.

    • Saturday,

cleared away some more finished crops, checked on the late seedlings of spinach, broad beans, dwarf french beens, peas, carrots, lettuce, cabbage. All looking good so far, some under a cloch and the rest out in the open at present.
Dug over a bed where I had rooted out rhubarb and made ready to plant out the broad beans to over winter.
I had a crude sub soiler on the back of my mini tractor and attempted to break the ploughpan on the open half of the plot, despite some rain over the last couple of weeks it's still very hard digging. i think I did some good. the plan now is to apply well rotted pig muck under cardboard and add council produced soil improver on top to hold the cardboard down. Come spring that sould be quite nice, I have some green manure to plant on the other exposed beds.

Back at the ranch! I removed the last of the 'ready' compost so I could turn my second bin into the first and then started again in bin 2 with some hedge trimmings and the hanging baskets and some cut down plants in the front garden. I had to wet both bins as the content was somewhat dry.

      • Made it down the plot for the first time in a week. Planted out my garlic, got a patch ready for my overwintering broad beans, and generally pottered around, tidying up before winter. Was glorious sunshine, glad it held out for my day off!

        Definitely getting chilly now though...

          • A bit more fruit pruning and shredded it all. Only one lot of raspberries still to weed. Put second leg on my table and given it it's first coat of yacht varnish. Cut down the hot & spicy oregano. A brutal clear out of the little tunnel, not much in their now ready for its move across the veg garden.

Is it a bi-table! Or does it use bricks to keep the other end up!

I wouldn't like to fill that thing with seed trays full of plants!

It seems a lot when it's written down. In reality about 4 hours or so but then herself was doing some too, I just get to do the grunting and sweating. ;-)

The legs are on the front. The back has been nailed to the greenhouse glass with six inch nails.
