  • Newbie jumping in.

I'm still fairly new to all this (got allotment last year) so I'm still learning when to do stuff reading what you all are up to helps.

Yesterday I was doing a bit of a tidy up in the drizzle

I trimmed the hedge that borders the from of the plot
Cleared an area of ground near the shed that was nettles last year
Cleared Sunflower and and Sweetcorn Stalks from last year
    Spread out some compost
Removed some of the last occupant's rubbish from the shed

The rain started pelting down and I left it there.

Mainly I was planning what I want to do this year. We picked up some early seed potatoes and onion set last weekend and I've got a bunch of seed catalogues to look through. Plotting!

        • Cut up the 20 saved milk bottles so I have plant labels galore.

Cut up all the 1ltr bottles so I have mini cloches and decent depth slug rings.

Potted up Penstemon, Spring Onions, Leeks (2 varieties),Chinese Cabbage (Yuki) and Fennel Herb.

          • For some reason i have collect and squeezed out another 2000 or so gold rush currant tomatoes, my excuse is that i do not know when i will grow them isolated again So i now have enough of these seeds to give everyone on the vine for the rest of their lives i still have bought ones as well!
Potted up my chitted monkey nuts, lets hope they do not get taken over by the mould.
Sat with the new gals for a while and they are getting a lot more confident, need to mix them soon.
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

            • Fed the chooks some bread and mixed corn. Topped up their water. Collected four eggs. Took wheelbarrow and collected a load of hoss muck that had been dumped at the main gate. Left it in wheelbarrow until I decide where to put it. Watered spring cabbage and leeks which i have in greenhouse. Chatted for half an hour about nothing in particular with another plot holder. Went home when it got dark!

                • Terrible weather prevented my going to the plot yesterday so hoping for better today.

I did however discover a bunch of seedlings poking their head up to say hello which prompted me to build my grow light ahead of schedule. All set up now and I've put the lights on a timer

                  • This morning I potted on six caulis that've been overwintering in my polytunnel, and sowed sixteen broad beans Aquadulce Claudia in root trainers.

How much and where from? If you don't mind me asking as I'm looking into getting a 25KG bag next week for £20.90 off ebay.

Ooh I like that! Hubby is pretty good at building stuff so I'll show him this pic and he could probably knock one up for me He's not a gardener at all but loves building stuff so giving him little projects like this helps him feel that the allotment is his too
