Ditto plam. Digging. Lots of digging. I'll feel it tomorrow I'm sure. But the feeling you get when you lean on your fork and survey your afternoons labours makes it all worthwhile

Lots of lovely playing with a bag of compost, pots and over wintered plants
Also rescued (found pots for) lots of plants the dog obviously needed the original pots for
Potted up 5 foxgloves that had found their way into my herb trough, love free plants
Next job is going to be finding a way to make my fingernails look presentable for tomorrow, or I could just get the nail varnish out

Last day of my holiday *sob* .....though I am only doing a 3hr shift tomorrow morning (putting newspaper rounds up for the kids and booking papers in) from 6am until 9am then off for rest of day, off Tuesday and not back properly until 6am on Wednesday morning Planning to finish the digging tomorrow as weather is supposed to change come Monday night.
Today I potted up the 4 poppies, 2 Veronicas, 6 bell boy peppers and 6 yellow peppers. I had to re-jig the greenhouse as I'm realluy struggling for space now so the garlic was moved to the polytunnel, ditto a few of my strawberries. I also tipped my Tropaeolum speciosum out of it's terracotta pot to see if it was actually growing! I won it on Fleabay a couple of months ago and it's been overwintering in a pot in the tunnel. It came as a piece of root so as there were no signs of life yet (yeah, I know it's only February!) I had a gentle look and yes, there are tiny roots and shoots starting to grow so it was placed back ever so carefully
Then I tidied up the piles of dry stalks on the end section of bed (note to self: just put them straight on the compost heap next year - it's a lot less hassle!) and then did a bit of digging for an hour before I decided, at 3pm, enough was enough
Just got a small section to do tomorrow then, if I still feel energetic, I'll do the flower bed (which will be my new fruit bed) which shouldn't be as bad because it's wasn't allowed to develop weeds last summer! THEN I may be able to get the raspberries and blackcurrant planted which will free some space in the greenhouse! If I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/

Spent most of the morning barrowing chippings down to the plot paths & moving logs & branches about.........I need it to look presentable for March's Calendar otherwise you'll think I do nowt..............................called it a day after lunch as it was so cold my eyes were watering so much, I couldn't see what I was doing................that's my excuse anyway.Last edited by Bigmallly; 28-02-2016, 09:06 PM.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Right! One question! Now fast approaching March, my seed sowing season!
Anyone have any feedback on these 'jiffy 7" coir, peat pelliets?
They just seem so tidy n easy to use, within there own propagator!
Any feed back more than welcome!
If I use them in future, I'll either slit or entirely remove the mesh when transplanting.

I'm sure they will Florence - mine have been looking rather manky over winter but are starting to grow new leaves and look altogether much happier now.
Just a short shift at work this morning and after a quick sandwich I popped up to the allotment to finish the digging before the rain arrives tonight. Unfortunately I only got a 4ft x 13ft section dug before I could feel a bit of an ache in my lower back so rather than risk doing an injury I knocked off and will finish the bed in the next week or two....there's no big hurry Hubby Neil suffers from a very painful back at times and the last thing I want is to join him in the Crocks Department *touch wood* I've never suffered from a bad back so certainly don't want to start now!!!If I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/

If they don't put a spurt on soon Gilly I'll just buy some replacements - again I just hope there's nothing wrong with the soil in that area that keeps making them disappear!
I've also done a bit of make do and mend on the stayput. It's a bit of a dog's dinner, but it'll do for now. It involved a bit of black tape and a lot of hope

I'm sick o' the sight o' chippins..........................well, the bulk of the plot has chippin paths now. Also planted up 2 beds of strawberries. Covered one of the beds with a cheapo fruit cage bought in the B4Q sale...............Last edited by Bigmallly; 29-02-2016, 05:09 PM.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Absolutely nothing garden related. When I woke up this morning it as lashing rain and freezing cold and its still doing the same now.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Our strawberries bit the dust today.
Lots of weevil damage last year, so the caterpillars went down the fields to feed the birds, saw a Robin grabbing one
Lawns have been mown, edges done, compost spread on beds. All done by my lovely hubby.
Me? I was a domestic goddess this morning and a really busy volunteer this afternoon.
Where's me seed packets ?Nannys make memories
