  • I sowed two trays of dahlias and thinned some snapdragons.

Then I sowed some Shirley toms and some peppers, and while moving them into the propagator, knocked the tray over onto the floor.

        • I had to do a double shift as someone rang in sick! Gorgeous sunny day too but all I got done was SULK....big time!

Not in until 1pm tomorrow so will nip up to plot and get some dahlias into pots - labels are all ready for them and plants in the shed so it shouldn't take too long

          • Variety is the spice of life Mally x I've cleared out a double raised bed, sown carrots in it and re-covered with enviromesh. Ripped up a dozen or so egg boxes into the daleks and given them a stir. Swoed a good piece of ground so it's ready for fertiliser. Potted on some aubergines and tomatoes. Planted out some pinks. Re-potted a clematis, Harry Smith. Transplanted 30 alpine strawberries. Productive day, but forgot about the 100 gladioli bulbs I had every intention of planting the other day until it was too late today - again! Oh well, nothing spoiling.

              • After looking at the heap of seeds waiting to be planted I ended up doing absolutely naff all in the garden.

Starting to feel very guilty now!

                • Lots of thinking about what I need to do, then doing none of it! Oh dear, I'll regret it later.

                    • Took the seedlings on their regular windowsill rotation cycle

Ditched my overwintering basil as it was covered in white flies and looking rather grim

Re-potted 9 garlic cloves into their final position - 9 to go but ran out of compost. All 35 are surviving so far - that's going to be a lot of garlic!!

Planted 20 strawberry runners - after hand drilling 36 drainage holes in the strawberry tower.

                      Shattered now

                      • Fussed about with the seedlings which can't be planted out yet and sowed a few more seeds to replace germination failures.

Tomato bed is now empty and I'm trying to find the motivation to scrub it and the strawberry bed ready for new soil.

                        • This morning I added another barrowload of leafmould to my new bed (will be for asparagus once the crowns arrive), and moved my gooseberry bush from it's current cramped spot to a much roomier spot next to my redcurrant bush.

                          • Knowing the boss was away and I would have a peaceful afternoon I took my list of stuff I want to grow to work and, inbetween serving customers, did a rough doodle ~ with much rearranging and rubbing out ~ of how I want the plot to look this year.

I'll probably do a bit more fine tuning and tweaking but am pretty happy with how it's looking so far Full to bursting with lots of flowers and veggies and no empty beds so those pesky weeds will have to go elsewhere this year!

                              • If it works out like the picture I have in my head it'll be great with lots of lovely plants. If it doesn't then I dread to think how bad it'll be....tho; I doubt it could ever be as bad as last year's weed-infested jungle!!! I completely underestimated just how fast weeds can grow in June and it looked AWFUL

That's the joy of gardening though, isn't it? Each year is a new blank canvas The plot itself is classed as a half plot and is roughly 90ft x 30ft.
