yesterday - I checked my seedlings - oregano, thai basil and strawberries have all germinated - just waiting for the chillies!

Had a wonderful furtle through my seed collection and my growing plan for the year - excited!

Also set my seed potatoes out in egg boxes to chit - I received 3 charlottes instead of 5 and one of the Swift's is rotten on one end. Marshalls have disappointed once again! I have a couple of outstanding orders with them then won't be using them again.

Can I cut the rotten end of the swift off and leave this to cure or would it have to be planted pretty sharpish then?

I think you should be ok to cut the bad part off Vixy, otherwise the rot would only spread through the spud anyway.
Well, my day started off ok then went downhill................I started raking all the leaves up around the plot beds, made about 6 or 7 good piles to go in the leafmold cage, managed to move 2 barrow loads & mi piggin back went so hobbled back to the house, spent a couple of hours laid up & the rest of the day indoors like a caged animal. Will have to see how it feels tomorrow........................not looking promising at the moment.

Yes, if you cut back leaving an undiseased surface it will soon skin over and the remainder should chit as normal.

Went to poundland for some plant labels and they only had lollipop sticks which rot away. Beggars can't be choosers though so I bought some with a pencil. I also bought a box of mushroom growing spawn. Haven't oprened bozx yet, but at a quid, am not really too bothered if its rubbish or not!
Had a surprise at the allotment where five egs were in the nest box. They had stopped laying but a couple must have came back on to lay. I've checked they are fresh and it will be nice to have a 'Proppa' egg instead of those insipid shop bought eggs I've had to put up with for a couple of weeks.
Sowed some show leeks, some long red onions and some long white onions. Realised I would still have a bit of room in the propagator so sowed some All Year Round Cauli in a small pot. All now safely ensconced in the propagator.

Good to finally have a dry day at the weekend, and spend a couple of hours at the plot.

It's a bit battered and bruised due to weather over the last while, but I can't wait for the new year ahead.

Spent the day tidying up, so sorry for such a boring post. Still, there are some good looking leeks I wouldn't mind picking tomorrow (if I'm allowed some more free time to go up there that is).

Well I finished building my first raised bed for my new garden.
But I can't place or fill it yet, as I need to wait for the ground to thaw! haha

Put some fleece, plastic, or newspaper over it Pacey? Welcome to the Vine BTW

Cleared some old chilli plants out of the Stay Put, just bedding plants in there now amongst the trays and pots. More to do when I get rid of this blasted cold.
