  • After the 4 season in a day during the last week I was up early and down on plot 23B. The grass was white with frost in the shade but, it was a nice sunny morning and the grass in the sun was already frost free. I went all out for digging all of bed 3 and the path to the side and rear and I managed it, and ended up with 2 and a half sacks of couch grass roots for my efforts and two square flower buckets of stones.

In addition I have moved the wheelie bin to the back of the site and the two greenhouse frames to be used a fruit cages from beside the shed so I can try and sort out the area in front of the shed on a future visit, more than likely after I have planted the spuds still in the greenhouse into bed 3

    • Emboldened by the weather forecast I popped down to the allotment this afternoon and planted out some young salad plants. It's nice to see fresh greenery on there that isn't weeds!

      • Potted on my peppers, one Caynne has a few buds on. Spent an hour juggling all potted plants around trying to gain a little more space.
Lettuce and spring onions have germinated.
Fuschias, geraniums, a bucket of peas and three buckets of first earlies have all been evicted from the greenhouse to take their chances outdoors as space is at a premium.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                  • 22 degrees on the patio today,I had most of my tomato plants out of the blow away for the first time, little bit windy but alright. They're indoors now but it is mild tonight, they would've probably been ok in the blowaway but I needed to water them & it was getting dark. I did a tally yesterday & I had 81 tomato plants,23 varieties, gave a friend 11 plants today,70s a bit more manageable, although its about 20 more than last year. I might see if my parents want me to grow some round their house,I could probably sneak them in & they wouldn't notice or just get some more pots.

                      • Put my tomatoes out in the growhouse. Going to harden them off this week so I can put them into their final pots later this week. That is my solution to stop them going anymore yellow.

Then sat in the greenhouse and had a nap

                              • Starting to harden off all my onions (from seed), Sprouts, Swedes and Cabbage's.

Took them out of the growhouse for most of the day today and will return them tonight about 9pm once the sun has gone down. Will do that for the next few days. How long does it take plants to harden off and what exactly is hardening off? Is it for the plants to get used to the wind or is it temperature?
