Potted on lots of chilli's and runner beans then the tunnel got to hot to stay in. Planted some swede, Swiss chard, broccoli, sprouts, parsnips ( they were just a tray of experimental seeds to see if I had any germination) and direct sown more parsnips. Cleaned out the chickens. Tunnel and garden has all been tucked up under fleece again tonight. It's not warm out there.

Sowed a few more french beans this morning, ive a few varieties growing hoping to save seed for the pea and bean circle. Really disappointed in the blue coco I had from pennard plants, not one has germinated...i sowed "blue beans" from the orphans list/garden organics at the same time and everyone has germinated.

The reason I don't like them is how they manage them. Hot day, Smoke blows right into our house as windows are open. We don't know they are having one til too late, they burn damp stuff, old sheds, plastic, you name it, it stinks. One neighbour had her then boyfriend (in 50s) burning and heap of grass clippings which had sat forever (damp underneath) , it was hot sunny weather, 30s in our upstairs, couldn't open windows to sleep...it smouldered for 3 nights sending the entire road into a smog.
If the bonfire is done right I have no objections.Last edited by Containergardener; 15-05-2016, 07:28 AM.Northern England.

Well, as my morning plans were scuppered yesterday and I went off in a strop to GH, it was actually rather productive:-
I planted my Lady Christl potatoes, only into 3 bags as I couldn't find anything to use to drill holes into the black dustbin ... (Note to self: get DH to get drill out for the next lot..!)
Potted on 3 courgette plants, looking lovely
Pulled some radish Scarlet Globe, which was a surprise as thought they'd vanished!
Cleared out the large grow bag of Durham Early Cabbage, sowed last August. Enough tasty looking leaves (that the ruddy pigeons not devoured..!!) to eat with today's lunch
So not a complete waste of a morning, and just as I was tidying up, the scaffolding boards arrived ...
Then it was all action stations ...
DH even began to sort out the electric supply to my GH too! It's happy I am..!~~~ Gardening is medicine that does not need

Cut the lawn at my late FIL's in readiness for some house viewings this week - glad that strimmer was in working order since it was too high to cut with the mower without a bit of a hack down first.
Finally got to the lotty and planted out some Savoy Cabbages and fitted some more secure locks on the big shed.
Finished clearing out the polytunnel and set a couple of sulphur candles off in there to kill off any nasties before moving stuff in there from the greenhouse.
Did a bit more weeding and then sat with a cuppa surveying the last few weeks work. I have to say I'm quite pleased with myself - it's all finallystarting to look a bit tidierWhat do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?

At the allotment - weeded the onion bed, moulded up the spuds again, they have really enjoyed the rain and the warm weather . Weeded the bored beans, planted another row of peas, put sticks into the first row of peas, planted out my climbing French beans, transplanted tomatoes and cucumbers into the glass shed, pottered about generally. I am officially pooped! I will water the greenhouse and plants in the conservatory a bit later when the sun is not so warm. It has been a glorious day.

Yesterday, got Husband to put up the bean teepee, and dig a third of a bed for me. Dug a quarter myself, did some weeding and earthed up some potatoes against frost.
Today, a bit more cultivating, weeded the onion bed, and earthed up the potatoes again, because they're keen...

This morning I carried lots of plants out of the greenhouse onto the hardening-off table...
Then this evening I carried them all back in again.
In between I went to the allotment, checked the frost covering on the potatoes, did some watering, sowed some more carrots and planted the last few onion sets.Attached Files
