Oh bugger, I thought they might be. I'm trying to cut down on spending this year and thought I'd seen a money saver just there. Haha.

I'll use strings then I think for my tomatoes.

        • Cut the saplings into the lengths you need & use them as stakes.

              • Potted on some seedlings, sorted out my seeds by "month to sow", resisted the temptation to sow things now that will take up valuable windowsill real estate for months.

                  • Well, lots of buying this week, not much else! 20 Metre length of weed mebrane off ebay (the good, thick stripy stuff!), 8 bags of compost, two tins of wood paint for the yet to be built raised beds, load of seeds from T & M, and the free strawberry offer from GYO mag.... Oh, and i finally potted up my blueberry bushes.

                    • Pleasant hour pottering this afternoon

Did my usual trick of finding a few sprouting spuds (Maris Peer) in cupboard so took them up to plant in polytunnel tomorrow or Sunday.

Checked spuds in shed and hanging them from the beams has saved them from being eaten by Mr Wood Mouse and his clan. Brought them in to greenhouse and laid them out to chit on egg trays.

Potted up Dahlia 'Arabian Night' tuber from last summer.

Moved pots of spring bulbs (daffs, crocus, tulips and grape hyacinth) to sunnier sheltered position next to polytunnel door.

Cut down tall dead stems of last summer's Verbena bonariensis and Sedum.

Stood and worked out in my head where beds will go for coming season *need to sort out direction plot faces* and also sorted out a few bits of wood from behind tunnel which I'll bring inside to dry then I'll get them painted and they'll do as temporary edging for beds this year. Neil seems to be wanting to do everything in one go but sensible wifey me knows we cannot afford that so it's going to be make-do-and-mend and slowly build things up over the next few years.

                      • I brought home 4 new chickens
Also got another 6 kilos of seed potatoes, need to spread them out as i cannot plant just yet.

I also stupidly knocked of one of my modular seed cell tray with beautiful california wonder, colour spectrum and minimix growing onto the flour, so i screamed like i had found a dead body, the OH came running :O so i picked out the good looking ones and replanted them but who knows which ones are which
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

I did that last summer (dropped a tray of flower seedlings) and let's just say it's a good thing my two allotment neighbours weren't around because my language was certainly not very ladylike! Luckily the seedlings were made of strong stuff and survived and gave me a lovely show of blooms all summer long.

                          • Today I ordered some more seeds - because obviously I don't have enough already

One of the threads from last year about radishes got me wanting to grow some and the radish seeds I have are quite old so thought some fresh would be just the ticket.

Well finally after the day I had yesterday, what with the wind taking out the fence on the drive at 3am, rescued that, just got back into bed, another almighty clatter, the trailer on the drive wanted to go walk-about!

Then the Chuffin car broke down! In 8 years, not one ounce of bother, But in the end I did manage summat

So not a complete waste of a day!

                              • Well this morning i went and burnt stuff on the allotment. Then came home to find a load of 'free, pay p&p only' orders as well as my raspberry canes order had arrived, so the conservatory is full of bare-rooted plants and nowhere to put them!
