I did today Had half a block of seed (meant to go in those flat feeder thingummijigs) for the birds which has been in the kitchen in a plastic bag for weeks. I've told the mice and voles I don't mind them living on my plot as long as they don't pinch my crops!

        • Sort of Keeping to my promise

The aim was an hour a day which I am sort of keeping to - I've done quite a bit of clearing at the plot and covered the bare bits with black plastic. I've sown sweet peas which are now sitting on the bedroom window sill and the potatoes are chitting on the window sill in the dining room. I also found some canes which I have cleaned up, there was about 100 of them in all, some had rotted but I reckon I've got 50 6ft and about 30 which are 3 to 4ft. Still enjoying hot chocolate with my neighbour who calls me 'Lass' something I haven't been eligible for a long time.

Can anyone advise of a good supplier of weed proof membrane, the plot next to the side of me has a shed but has not been used for a year. My husband (hates gardening with a passion that has to be seen to be believed) has agreed that if the council let me rent it he will cut the weeds to ground level, the aim being to leave it till 'my plot' is sort of organised.

          • I'm off work with a horrendous cold - boo! BUT it means I've been able to inspect the garden in daylight for a change - all 35 garlics have now sprouted and are looking healthy and I have heads forming on 2 of my 7 PSBs -very excited!

            • Ditto, vixylix. No allotment gardening for me this week. Some more broad bean seedlings germinated in the gh and my small sowing of Zebrune shallots are poking their heads up so I should sow some more. No sign of any chilli germination yet though.

              • So far today I've sown some chilli's:
Demon Red - courtesy of the VSP
                Vampire
                Nosferatu
                Hungarian Hot Wax - VSP
Hungarian Yellow Wax - a new one for me and mild enough the OH might actually eat them
Bhut Jolokia - I've got no real expectations with this one, it primarily an experiment/challenge to see if I can get them to produce. Not sure what I'll do with the chillis if I succeed

Also put in some Black Icicle and Indigo Rose toms and hoping to have more toms in by the end of the day.

                • Fairly productive today! Finally got my onion sets out of their bags and into a pot. Some looked a bit moldy so i binned them. Also finally got my raspberry canes into pots until i can decide where i want them to go in the allotment.
Also took delivery of a plastic walk-in greenhouse, a bargain £25 from wilko.

                    • Admired the garden from the window while I baked! Hopefully I'll be able to play out next week!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!

                        • 17 lots of seed sown and in the propogaters.

I've started anew spreadsheet to keep track of what I've sown and success rates etc. Also as a way of reminding me which seed I got from where, particularly for the VSP seed so I can let people know how successful their seed was for me and to thank them of course

Thanks for the link. I'm going to order myself one of those at a later date when I have a few funds available.

I've just measured it out on the kitchen floor with the tape measure and it's big enough! It would cover my floor space in the kitchen sop I think I'll definitely be investing in one when Neil gets paid on Monday I think it'll be ideal for seedlings at first and then an extra growing area for cucumbers and melons

                              • If Wilko's run out of stock you can get a similar one from poundstretcher for about the same price (when you include delivery from Wilko's)

Heavy Duty Walk In Greenhouse | Poundstretcher

I checked it last week and it was only £19.99 but i think that was based on last years price. It's gone up a tenner this year.
