  • Well dug the roots out for 3 hazelnut trees (3 to go) and built 3 new raise beds for carrots beetroot and asparagus .
Then went for 3 sacks of manure now looking forwards to a well deserved cold pint.
When you have a hammer in your hand everything around you starts looking like a nail.

    • Dug over the first section of my lawn this morning that's going to be a combined edible flower and perennial/attractive veg border. Dug out an unwanted rose bush from a mini brick raised bed and planted asparagus - just the one for now to see how it does.

      • Took my red torpedo and beige torpedo onion seedlings to the allotment to harden off in the greenhouse. Collected my normal ammount of eggs from chooks then found a small cache of six eggs they had laid on the ground under a small coop I keep in the run in case I need to confine hens separately
I purchased my onion sets from the local GC, a huge bag full for £2.80!Also bought some Charlotte seed potatoes and set them out in egg trays to chit.

        • Those cheapo greenhouses are worth the money I think (as long as you don't live somewhere as windy as the Shetlands!) and my very first one was one of these. Neil got me one as a surprise in 2004 when we lived in North Shields and put it up whilst I was at work one Saturday. I grew so many flowers that I ran out of space in the garden and gave loads of them to neighbours that summer. Pottering in there was SO relaxing.
Now that I'm All Growed Up (!) I have a Real Greenhouse and today I spent three lovely hours potting up stuff.

Took strawberry plants out of polytunnel and put in pots in greenhouse in preparation for them going in hanging baskets this year (all for me, none for Mr Vole and the slugs this year!). Was surprised to find myself with another 21 plants!!!

Potted up remainder of plug plants = 62 plants. Definite signs of growth on these now...Spring is on it's way.

Made a start on my onion sets and got 63 done before compost ran out!

          • Just ordered myself one of those growhouses from Wilko's. Cheers for the link bex.

I will have two now for this coming year. The big one I have just ordered and a one half that size that Ive had for a couple of years.

Getting my compost tomorrow from B and M then all I need is my BFB. Then I'm ready to go.

            • Planted 2 bags of Tulips (100 bulbs) around a plum tree.
Then it was garden makeover time - just like on the tele.
Take one bed of ready turned over soil and plant out 20+ polyanthus (the ones that were free in H0meb@se a week or so back). Instant garden fix. Should look good when the tulips emerge

              • 1 row of carrots - Romance
1 row of carrots - Artemis
! row of beetroot - Boltardy

Very short rows all under a poly cloche.

Put last of the weed control down so the - now I am whispering quietly - fake grass can be put down when it turns up.

This morning I realised why the water butt was not filling up - I had blamed the newly installed collection thingy that attaches to the down pipe - nope.............the tap was open.

                  • Bought myself a mini-greenhouse from Wilko's to put inside the polytunnel. This I hope will help with germination of seeds by having a slightly higher temp inside. Very windy outside!!! So inside the tunnel I put together the mini-greenhouse. Very easy to put together, just have to twist the metal tubes into place. Afterwards, decided to sow some onion seeds. 1 forty cell tray of "Bristol F1" onions and 1 forty cell tray of "Vento F1" onions. And that was it, off home to listen to the football on the radio!

                    • bought some compost from Been and Queued as I had to pop out for calpol for my oldest

repotted the last four pecterine trees (lost their labels) and put them in the greenhouse and noticed one of the others has flowers coming already

Stared ( a lot ) at the manky gravel bit that is to become lawn thinking how much work there is to do.

                      Potted up my @ldi pear.

Stared at the veg patch thing how much work there is to do

Drilled some holes in a loft tank to plant up a nectarine at a later date.

Called it a day went in for a cuppa. (It was getting rather cold and blowy)

Shhh... I love my fake grass... Too small an area for a proper lawn, and no sun from november to feb means i end up with a soggy, mossy mess. Best thing we ever put in the garden.

                            • I dug up 30 wallflower plants from the allotment and replanted them in my garden. Should have done it in November, but ... didn't. A couple of them are starting to flower but I'm sure they'll be okay.

                              • Harvested Parsnips and brussel sprouts. I was going to put out my seed potatoes on the greenhouse bench to chit but thought better of it as I think we could still have a lot of cold weather/frosts yet.
I was going to plant out some spring cabbage in the polytunnel but the way the wind was gusting it was a bit scarey inside.
Next plan was to sow some Parsnips. Found the bed i was going to use but when i bent down i had a nose bleed. Somebody is trying to yell me summat sez I!

Fed the chooks and gave them some sprout plants to munch on............... then toddled off home holding my snitch.
