  • I didnt hit the allotment as planned, but i did give the garden a good going over. Finally chopped down the honeysuckle that Ive given space to for five years, and its never given anything in return, not even a flower bud.

    • Still struggling to find energy and motivation in the garden, it is taking soooo long for me to get things done

Mulched around the last four fruit trees.

Probed the soil (8.1°C), probed the hotbed matter (18.6°C)

      Took my monthly garden pics

Mucked out birds and put muck to one side for another hotbed.

      That took me all day

      • Added to my cardboard mulch with some huge boxes I snagged from work.

Turned the compost heap, dug out a small area, added some compost, and chucked some broad beans in.

Dug out what will be my three sisters trial bed this year, and covered about a quarter of it with straw mulch (ran out of straw).

It's been a long time since I got any actual food out of the allotment - getting excited about spring.

                    • So much done today! Very happy

                      Lots of seeds sown:

                      Tomatoes:
                      Venus
                      Tumbler
                      Tigerella
                      Golden Queen
                      Pomodoro
                      Red Cherry
                      Black Cherry
                      Red Pear

Aubergine pinstripe (courtesy of Garden Gayle and the VSP)
                      Lemon Basil
Strawberry Temptation (second sowing of these - only one of the previous survived)
                      Burpless Cucumber
Onion - Long de Florance Simane
                      Lavender - Vera
                      Pepper - Long Red Marconi

Potted on all the seeds sown in Jan

Found some supermarket osprey and saxon potatoes lurking in the fridge so decided to experiment and see if these will chit - so now on the windowsill with the rest

Staked up my zebrune shallots as per APs onion thread (thank you) - bit worried the soil is quite wet so not sure how well these will fare.

Ordered some hadopots to pot on my garlic, which are looking amazing! Also ordered some more charlotte seed potatoes and a blackberry plant.

                      very satisfying

I have had some Osprey in buckets in the greenhouse since October so should be ready soon. I didn't chit them as they are a maincrop.

Interesting... googling said they were second earlies. But either way they're on the windowsill more to be safely out of the way than actually to chit

                          • I stand corrected, second early they indeed are.

                              • Went to the plot yesterday to throw some stufff in the compost bin, and found that the wind had blown the environmesh off my hooped bed, and the pigeons had taken their opportunity to reduce all my spring greens and pak-choi to skeletons.
