  • What did I do today?.........I can't remember......................Oh! I know..........Got me washing pegged out, chipped some more of the plot paths, erected 4 foot of the 18 foot Munty frame, would have done more but lads dropped off another ton of chippings so had to stop to move that. Brought washing in & now chilling out. Must go light the fire, it's getting a bit nippy again.

    • Oops, just hammered Aldi and their gardening stuff (out today). Couple of raised beds (£6.99 each, so not expecting much), some vermiculite, some dome tent type cloches, some gloves and a few other bits and pieces that fell in my trolley....

Now I'm intrigued... what on earth does a baby bumblebee look like?! Never seen one of them!

They're like little white grubs in the nest (had to google it myself ). Haven't seen any bumble bees up here yet but perhaps I may tomorrow as I'm taking a day off from the digging and going birding to a nature reserve

          What did I do today?

Tidied flower beds from last year (dry stalks etc) and dug another third of the 31ft section.

They're like very small white grubs and feed on the pollen that the queen bee fetches back to the nest. Once they become adults they then feed the next generation of baby bees with the pollen they fetch back to the nest. And so on...

Just like in the link Gillykat has kindly provided.

            • Spent all day building a greenhouse, the door has got the better of me so called it a day before I hit it.

              • Very little yesterday and today.

Spent much of yesterday misting seedlings to get them through the horrendous heat.

This morning I pulled up some petunias to free up a pot, re-potted my rosemary, and took a couple of cuttings from a carnation.

Nothing big planned until the weekend when I go and get some more supplies. For me, the next few weeks will be mostly about nurturing seedlings.

                • This morning on the plot I dug out a couple of giant docks and some massive tussocks of couch grass. Then I sowed a row of beetroot under a pane of glass in one of my raised beds, and 16 snap peas in 4 pots in the tunnel.

                  • Been out in the garden today and added a some more stuff to me compost heap and turned it all over a few times. Then i ripped off the old plastic of my growhouse which was ripped to bits off the storms this winter. I have a new one ready to go on and i will take it off once the growing season is over and only put it back out in the spring. there is nothing in there in the winter apart from pots full of compost so i might as well just take the plastic in and leave the frame up.

Hopefully the weather warms up next month so i can get both my growhouses up and start the rest of my seedlings away as i have no room left on the windowsills.

                    • Potted on my pak choi seedlings. Sowed 6 seeds, had 0 results (they're quite old so I didn't expect much from them) so 3 weeks later I sowed 12 seeds. 3 days later I had 11 pak choi seedlings in 3 modules. They're now in 3 pots on the windowsill for now. The same thing happened with my kale, 2 different varieties, so I'll be doing those tonight. I think sod's law is going to be in play a lot this year.

                      • Potted on my chilli's (Razzamatazz) so I now have 4 lovely little plants.
                        Potted on my sweet peppers (Minimix) " " " " " " " "

Sowed 4 each of - Glacier, Losetto, Red Alert, Latah, Princeps Borghese, Tigerella, Tumbling Tom and Balconi Yellow.

Sowed 4 Cayennes, 5 Fennel Herb, Spring Oniond (White Lisbon) and Leeks (Blue De Solaise and Pennine)

Now have no window ledges left and no longer possible to close the curtains - Hey Ho

                          • I am sitting very stiff on the sofa after digging and planting 40 meters of main crop red potatoes, actually managed to cut most in half as they had a good load of eyes on them, i am going to be very sore tomorrow now just the whites to do, again should get another 30 or 40 meters. Then i will see what Lidl has in store next week. This whole trying to be as self sufficient as possible is hard work and i am almost sick of broccoli
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

                            • Aggressively cut back the strawberries, thinned the zucchini and button squash to one plant, put the new seedlings outside for a bit of morning light as the weather is much milder today.

                              I hear you.

This year I'm trying to plant enough for my needs and just a little extra. It's going to mean more frequent planting, but I'm fine with that.

I haven't sown a thing either, so you are not alone! I've made the mistake of sowing too early before, and now it's freezing, so I guess we are being 'sensible '!
