  • I froze my ass off whilst giving everything a really good water, i have to put my finger at the end of the hose to spray and it water was so cold.
I also killed another 1098 aphids , i have brought them into the house where i can really watch them and i am going to wash all the soil off and make sure they have nothing on them and repot and hopefully the GH will be made and the can sit and recover in there. I really do not want to re start many more.

Luckily the tomato plants have been unaffected and doing great, its amazing, them not being around and i only see them every 3 days and you really see the growth, look at silly me talking like some mad person like they are talking about kids
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

Why are you washing dead aphids Lisa?....................

        • Rearranged my pots yesterday in the hope that new locations will increase the chances of getting a crop from the late sown summer vegies. Put up a make shift trellis for the button squash.

Went to the hardware store with my daughter so she could buy one thing and somehow I left with more pots and propagating sand and my grandson left with a mini-greenhouse, 4 packets of seed, a cactus and seed-raising mix.

This morning I gave the outdoor plants a seaweed feed and cut back the vine which grows through my fence from next door.

          A productive week overall.

Still waiting on leeks, savory, parsley and carrots to germinate.

          • We had the Allotment AGM this morning, then straight to my new plot to start work on it

I had two plots next to each other at the beginning of the day,but one of them was shaded by a large tree so I have given it up. I have taken on a derelict plot instead which was hard for the association to let, but has tremendous potential.
Hopefully by next year I'll have it fully functional for growing veg and keeping chickens. As its a large triangular shaped plot (in square metres about the same size as my previous two plots together) , hopefully I will be able to give up my other plot next year and concentrate everything on my new one!

Slash and burn was the order of the day!

I also bought an electric propogator which is now being put to use on my tomato seedlings.

              Also ordered my growlight!!

What kind of time frame do people usually have growlights / electric propagators on for? 24/7?

Mine are on for about 18 hours a day. I have a multi point attached to a timer that is plugged into the wall so they both come on and off together. I have solar panels on the garage roof (3.5Kw) which helps offset any electric costs during the day - but the costs are minimal anyway to be honest.

I do that too Actually caught myself talking to my perennials as I lifted them out of the old flower bed yesterday....''Now you guys just settle down in here - it's only for a week or two then you'll be in a lovely big bed''

I talk to my blackcurrant & 9 raspberry canes in the greenhouse too Told them I've got them a gorgeous sunny new bed and I'll get them into the ground in the next week or so....

Perhaps it's just as well my two allotment neighbours, Tony and postie guy, are rarely on site because they'd soon think I was barking mad
If I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/

It's normally the dog I talk too. Tell her what each plant is and what my plans are for said plant. I basically just talk her through everything I do in the garden. People walking passed must think I'm away with the fairies.

                  • Thanks to Bren I remembered I have an airing cupboard ( see sowing thread for an explanation) so broad beans are about to go into loo rolls.

Went to my lovely (cheap) nursery and got foxgloves x4, verbena x 4 and gaura x 2. OH has planted them nearly where I told him to.

Built a slab step outside the kitchen door so Archie, the badly arthritic lab can get in and out easier.

                    • Started the "Tidy Up" on the plot! Jeez! It were cold!

Right! One question! Now fast approaching March, my seed sowing season!

Anyone have any feedback on these 'jiffy 7" coir, peat pelliets?

They just seem so tidy n easy to use, within there own propagator!

Any feed back more than welcome!

                          • Potted on my tomatoes, planted some more and some cukes and put them in the propagator. Chopped back the green manure on 3 beds at the plot and covered them with plastic so that they can warm up. Forked over 3 beds, planted out my bare-root strawberries, planted some broad beans and some peas under the mini polytunnel. It's starting to look less abandoned and more as if someone lives there

                            • Sieved a load of JM compost & filled two 24 cell seed trays with it. Have brought the trays into the conservatory to warm up a bit before i start sowing anything.
