What I did today - 2016

Bee and Q were selling some of their spring plants off cheap and as we moved here to late to think 'bulb' I have just planted 6 lots of hyacinth. Each pot had 3-4 semi grown bulbs in so I have planted them out as they were.

Also got 2 pots of Forget Me Nots so I have split them and shoved (I mean tenderly planted them) in.

Moorisons have some lovely climbers in at the moment at £1.77 each so 3 have now gone in.

I took the plastic cloche off my brussels sprouts today (sowed in Oct) the leaf tips were touching the plastic so they needed freedom,also planted out 7 more from the blow away,so 9 plants,quite a lot,I didn't think they'd do this well. So I've put a few in my new bed too with net/bamboo around both areas to protect from pigeons. Gave the blow away tent a wash & put a few of my potted on tomato seedlings in there for a few hours sunshine,they're tiny still but it was warmer & brighter in the blow away. Brought them in at about 4pm,they're in the kitchen now till morning.

I brought fleece today ( as I'm presently close to lots of cheapy shops). Hope all my plants are ok.

I managed to finish one of the new doors on the kite then planted 20 Harmony spuds.

This morning I've re-re potted all my tomato seedlings as that blooming easigrow compost is absolutely c**p. The seedlings just didn't look healthy at all and 2 of them died and they've only been in it a week. Got 4 bags of the stuff as well (280 ltrs).

I re-repotted them into some of last years verve compost that still looks absolutely fine to me. I'd added a little growmore to it a few weeks ago so it should be fine. I'm going to buy some more on saturday so when they go into their final pots, i can use that rather than this easigrow rubbish.

Not sure what the hell to do with all this easigrow as all my beds are full and i don't want to add anymore to them. I havn't even got the receipt so i can take the 3 unopened bags back. When my compost bin comes i think I'll compost them a bag at a time.

This morning I dug over another 3'x8' patch of soggy (even though it hasn't rained for weeks) clay soil, ready for amendment adding.

Also sowed Wizard Beans, spinach, broccoli raab and two types of chard.

Have just finished adjusting the kite door, cleaned a couple of solar pumps in readiness for my irrigation experiment. Just having a quick coffee before tackling the mound of chippings.

Yesterday I forked the weeds out of some more allotment beds and planted my first batch of early potatoes. Half of the allotment is neat and tidy now!

I've just been cutting the grass edging around the path & borders & doing some weeding. The first flower is opening on my Victoria plum.

Yeah, me neither. There was no sun again so it was pointless.

I think the sun is set to show it's face on Friday, so here's hoping i can get them in the heat of the growhouse for a few hours at least.

Now all the outbuildings n greenhouses clean n tidy!

Bottom beds cleared, asparagus bed tidied n mulched with home made compost! And Strawberry bed "Fettled"





Then the "Big Beds"





I'll have it "Licked" by Friday!
