  • Dug out a tree from an old pump barrel I had in the back garden. The wood had rotted. Such a hard job as the pot was full of roots, so I had to keep hacking bits off.
All done now but shoulder is aching.
It doesnt seem like much but it took the afternoon.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

      • Planted 12 chitted Parsnip seeds into the garden into little dibber holes filled with compost this morning.

I shall be doing this every other day as more and more of them sprout little roots as theysit on wet paper towels in a sealed container (weather permitting).

        • OH finished putting up the pallet fence he designed yesterday. Now its fairly certain ive got the whole plot, hes going to redo all the path edging as it was badly put together (not enough bracing and rubbish screws), plus its not straight!
Sowed a load more seeds yesterday, peas, runner beans, corgettes, cauliflowers etc, plus potted on some tomatoes and peppers. I need to get some bigger pots, ive either got little diddy ones, or whopping great big ones!
Might spend some time in the garden today, the suns out & its a tip.

            • I sat yesterday and sorted through all my (no longer so small) seedlings - particularly tomatoes, which I had way too many of! 18 plants and 12 seed potatoes sat ready and waiting to go to my little brother - he has a greenhouse so no doubt 'my' tomatoes in his grerenhouse will put mine at home to shame!

              • Just spent a lovely morning at the plot! Was much warmer than forecast said. So, broad beans now planted, and one tray given to lottie neighbor ( I planted whole packet and they all germinated!), and she is giving some leeks!

                Allotment folks are so nice!

And all gardening folk are nice!

                • Spent 10 minutes balancing my various chillis on whatever I could fit into my growlight garden to make up for the height differences, so that they were all 6cm from the bulb. Padrons are now 6" tall whereas my Jamaican Hots are only about 2" tall (all sown at the same time). This isn't going to be feasible for too much longer!

                    • Planted up two half barrels with potatoes.
Tidied up and swept the decking area.
Emptied some old pots and had a good cleanout of the greenhouse.

                              • Planted my Charlotte second early spuds. Used a small border spade to hack through the hoss muck/cardboard/plasterboard/ mulch through into the compacted earth and added a half a handful of slow release high Potassium fertiliser to each planting hole.

Lit a bonfire for the last time as no burning at the allotments from 1st April to end of October.
