C'mon Scoot - you're messing with my head man.
Anyway, with it being a dry day it was still doing prep work for me.
So many beds are ready now, the temp at night is rising - so hopefully, time to get spuds and onion sets in over this week.Last edited by KevinM67; 03-04-2016, 09:47 PM........because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. Over the weekend I attacked another patch of neglected plot - digging it over and removing all the weeds and roots... the nerve centre of the nasty weeds (couch grass and mare's tail) seems to be under the plastic sheeting which was put down by a previous tenant to create paths - when I peel back the plastic (quite satisfying) it reveals a tangled mess of brittle black roots, and the soil underneath is compacted really badly. Gradually, I'm breaking it up, picking out the roots, adding leafmould, and covering with cardboard. I'll plant potatoes through it this year until I've decided on my layout.
I also did various sowings in the greenhouse and heated prop.He-Pep!

Glad you're enjoying yourself Sue - it's very addictive this growing lark! Last year was my first of growing vegetables and I had so much fun, frustration at the weeds and slugs and, most importantly, LOTS of great advice from everyone on here If there's ANYTHING you are puzzled about just ask -everyone is so lovely on The Vine
Today I spent 45 minutes just pottering as it was absolutely chucking it down. Moved a few herbaceous perennials out of the tunnel to begin hardening them off (raised OFF the ground in case we haven't quite managed to block out the Easter Bunny!), watered stuff staying in the tunnel, mooched about in my greenhouse seeing what had germinated....and have an annoying feeling I may have some furry critter in there as I'm sure a couple of seedlings have been nibbledIf I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/

Apart from having the grandkids help out Saturday morning (which they love for a change). Got some broad beens transplanted and sowed shallott seed and Spinach seed. Dug over a bit more of the beds adding cardboard, leafmold and half rotted horse muck.
Sunday I made a frame from pallet bases that is about 3' x 4' x 15" deep. Sank(dug) this into the ground so about 4" shows and then again added leaf mold etc and dug the centre over well. Covered with a sheet of cardboard then cut a 10" round hole and burried a pot of two asparagas plants I've had since last spring. One was just showing so hopefully might produce this year. In any event they should stay happy and contained in thier own bed now and next year they will be wonderful.

Laid a few paving flags on my project plot and started to plan my summerhouse build by shifting piles of timber into appropriate piles for use. Roof spars, uprights etc
Now all I need is a load of inspiration and a few nice days to get cracking! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

At the weekend I went to the garden centre and B & Q and I bought various herbs (there was an offer on), and a reduced rhubarb. I also bought approx 20 petit pois seedlings as my peas have been refusing to germinate at all - got back in to find 10 of them had sprouted since the morning!
I finally finished digging over my lawn border and planted the rhubarb. I potted on all of my sprouted melons, cucumbers and peas. I planted out two short rows of spinach beet and two of yellow chard, plus one large broccoli calabrese and top dressed the whole area with well rotted manure, including around my garlic and broad beans. I also potted on all of the herbs I'd bought and took cuttings for extras, as well as potting on lots of my indoor seedlings.
I discovered that the reason my strawberry plants aren't growing well is that there's a disgusting looking white grub eating the roots (hundreds of the little things) - I dug all the plants out of the planter and started sieving the soil to get rid of them. I think I'm going to have to buy new plants though...
All in all a productive Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

This morning i took delivery of a compost bin which i had cancelled because i had got one for nothing off a friend.
They knew I'd cancelled it as well because they replied to my email confirming it. Basically they've made a cock up. I didn't even actually take delivery for it, i seen him drop it in the yard and post the delivery note through the door so i have signed for nothing either haha.
So now i have 2 compost bins, both for nothing.
