  • Had an afternoon off work, made a bamboo wigwam and planted out some sweet pea seedlings, also planted out some calendula seedlings. Tidied patio and deadheaded daffs in pots. Moved the spent daffodil pots round the back of the garage, fed and watered them. Potted on my lemon tree. Levelled a small area of ground to install compost bin no. 2.

    Productive afternoon!

        • The first evening where its been fairly still, so i took the cover off my polytunnel which is following me to my new plot. I was going to take the frame down also but the joints are seized (I've got a similar problem myself!)
I'll take the WD40 with me tomorrow evening and give all the polytunnel joints a blast which should hopefully free them up.

The poor spring cabbage that I had planted within the polytunnel are going to take a battering from the flyinmg rats this evening and tomorrow!

Went to Screwfix direct before visiting the plot and bought a new rip saw (7tpi) and a 20 oz claw hammer. Also bought some 'ell' brackets and some 3 inch masonry nails.

The base of my new summerhouse consists of breeze-block which I intend to add decking boards to the top edge to build from. Tried nailing one decking board on top of the breeze block as a trial and the three inch masonry nails seem to get a good hold!

          • Today's playing in the garden involved.
Plant Hokey Cokey in, out, in, out. ( plants out of the house and into the tunnel, plants in the tunnel outside to harden off) then did it all in reverse this evening.
            Lots of seed sowing.
Mounded up the manure in the middle of my tractor tire ready for my rhubarb.
3/4 filled another 3 big tubes with manure, ready for my mint rearranging.
            Cleaned up my strawberry tub.
Started digging over the bed in the tunnel.

            • After work did some shifting of seedlings from windowsills -> greenhouse and greenhouse -> sheltered spot. Pricked out some cosmos. It was 7 before I realised I really should go and have me tea

                • Pretty much at the rearranging the stuff on the windowsills stage now.

5 weeks into Autumn and it's 33C outside at the moment. Not looking good for winter crops at all.

                  • An evening walk to the plot and planted five red hot poker plants I grew the year before last, a bit more colour and form won't go amis. The rest are doing really well in the front garden of the house where they were set out last year.

                      • Been out in the garden this morning and moved my crocuses further down into my wildflower area and in doing so have extended my veg patch by about 4 square metres. Once the crocuses were in place i then sowed my wildflower mix and watered them in.

With my second brand new, free compost bin i emptied the 8 bin liners full of leaves i had into it, so now i have more room to walk around.

Stacked some more logs onto my log pile and checked the growhouse to see if anything needed watering, which it didn't.

                        • Yesterday I dug over my old strawberry bed in preparation for sowing some parsnip seeds, then didn't sow them,I'm wondering about growing peas amongst them, like I did with carrots last year, then I changed my mind. All too confusing outside so potted on 9 broccoli summer purple & 11 early purple sprouting broccoli, they're all outside in the blow away with some onion sets that are just starting to sprout. Potted on 4 bulls eye cherry geranium, theyre inside the house. A few more bits to pot on today too. Noticed yesterday my first potato haulms are coming through outside in potato bags, planting the next lot out this month. Sowed a tray of french marigolds-about 50 plants & a tray of dahlias. When I'm potting everything on,I'm giving them a weak seaweed feed for love.
